5K On Your Own

Walk - Run - Roll - Scoot to Support
the SAME Foundation

Complete a 5K on your schedule, using the modality that works for you, and help advance the SAME Foundation’s mission. Registration is $35.

Winners will be announced on social media.

How It Works

Register: Add the 5K during SBC registration. If you have already registered for SBC and would like to participate, email registration@same.org.
Complete your 5K your way: Finish the route anytime during SBC.
Record your result: Use the sheet you received during check in to record your time and modality (walk, run, wheelchair, or e-scooter).
Submit your result: Return the completed sheet to the table where you picked it up.

Safety & Accessibility

Follow local laws. Use lights/visibility in low light, wear a helmet on e-scooters, yield on shared paths.
Check weather and hydrate appropriately.
Choose terrain and segments that match your mobility needs.
By registering, you acknowledge that participation in a 5K can be physically demanding and that you participate at your own risk. You assume all risks associated with participating. If you have medical concerns, consult a qualified professional before participating.

Submitting Your Results

Submission forms will be distributed at SBC Registration.
Deadline: Submit your results by 12:00 p.m. ET on November 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. to be eligible for an award.
Privacy: Results may be shared via social media highlights. Submitted photos may be shared at the SAME Foundation's discretion.

What Your $35 Supports

Your $35 entry fee directly supports the SAME Foundation by fueling leadership development, STEM outreach, and programs that build the nation’s engineering readiness.

Can I participate outside of Charlotte?
Yes. You may complete the 5K On Your Own wherever you are, but to be considered for an award you must be present in Charlotte.

Do I need GPS proof?
No. A GPS link, screenshot, or photo is optional, but may help resolve ties or verify award results..
Can relay teams participate?
Yes. Each relay team member must register individually for the 5K.
Are there shirts or swag?
Yes. Everyone who registers will receive a T-shirt. The first 100 participants who return their accountability card will receive a Charlotte racing pin.
